Hello Toronto Centre! My name is Tom Cai, and I am running to be your city councillor. You ever take the TTC for a few stops, see the 3 dollar fare, and think you might have overpaid? You ever want to grab a pint with your friends, see your local pub demolished, and think the city might be overdeveloping? You ever get a call from your landlord, hear that he’s raising rent again, and think renters need more rights and representation?
Let’s prevent those uncomfortable questions, by changing things up a bit. Toronto Centre is home to the most vibrant cultural icons of Toronto, from the nightlife of Church Street to the Conservatory at Allen Gardens. We’ve seen a better half of a decade wash away under poor governance from City Hall.
So let us change how things work around here. Let’s increase the supply and decrease the price of homes on the renter’s market, by pushing housing speculators to rent out their houses instead of scalping us. Let’s fight for better rent control at Queen’s Park, to make sure the province doesn’t sell your community and housing out to land developers and corporations. And let’s make your rides on the TTC cheaper. With dynamic pricing, your fare could be as low as 50 cents for a ride downtown. Paid for not with higher taxes, but ending the corruption and mismanagement over at city hall. My name is Tom Cai, and I can’t wait to be your grassroots representative at City Hall. Let’s fight today on doorsteps, barstools, and subway stops, for the affordable Toronto of tomorrow.
